Vira Shield®
Dairy Cattle Vaccine
CONTROL
WITHOUT COMPLICATION
Vira Shield 6 has none of the restrictions that a live vaccine
must carry.
In 2006, South Dakota State University reported an increase in
the number of cases of IBR-caused abortions associated with improper
use of modified live IBR-BVD vaccines.1
A new study shows Vira Shield can provide enhanced IBR fetal protection
8 months post-vaccination without the risks that may be associated
with modified live IBR vaccines.2
-
Scientific evidence suggests that MLV-IBR vaccines should not
be administered during estrus in seronegative (i.e., unexposed)
females.3
-
Vira Shield 6 was
given according to label to 21 heifers pre-breeding; 14 control
heifers were not vaccinated.
-
Animals were challenged with virulent
IBR at approximately 6 months of gestation and almost 8 months
post-vaccination.
-
18 of 21 heifers that received Vira Shield 6
were protected from abortion following challenge; all 14 control
heifers aborted (see figure). IBR was isolated from all aborted
fetuses and no other pathogens were detected.
