Pregnancy-checking
Beef Health Programs
Objective
Protect newborn calves by increasing disease protection from the
cow; boost antibodies in colostrum.
Challenges
Diseases that weaken or kill newborn calves, including scours and
calf pneumonia.
A healthy, vigorous calf is a cow-calf producer's most valuable
asset. Calves that get off to a poor start rarely catch up to herd
mates. In a study published in the American Journal of Veterinary
Research, calves that became sick in the first four weeks of life
weighed 35 pounds less at weaning than their healthy herd mates.
On a $1/pound market, this means $35 less per sick calf come sale
day at weaning.
Novartis developed the ImmPact
pre-calving/calving program that integrates husbandry skills
with Novartis' biologicals during the last 90 days of pregnancy
through the calving period. The program is designed to help you
deliver a healthy calf that will thrive in the face of unavoidable
challenges of neonatal life. |
