Objective
Help heifers reach breeding weight quickly and remain in optimum
body condition for breeding and carrying the first calf. Get
heifers into the milking string quickly.
Challenges
Exposure to viral pathogens such as IBR, BVD and BRSV that can
cause clinical illness or set the stage for reproductive problems.
Exposure to leptospirosis, a leading cause of reproductive losses.
Lameness
caused by footrot or heel warts. Risk of sudden death caused
by clostridial diseases like blackleg. Endotoxemia caused by
E. coli after freshening.
