Two viruses that cause many diseases can
be quickly stopped with one vaccine – Quick Shield
IN IBR-PI3.
Two common viruses of cattle – bovine herpes
virus Type 1, or BHV-1 and parainfluenza Type 3, or PI3 – can
cause of wide range of disease conditions. BHV-1, for example,
causes an upper respiratory
tract infection called IBR (infectious bovine rhinotracheitis, also
called “red nose”). BHV-1 also causes conjunctivitis,
or pinkeye, and is a major factor in reproductive disorders including
infertility, abortion, and weak or stillborn calves. PI3 alone causes
only mild respiratory problems, but it is usually found with other
viruses in severe bovine respiratory disease cases.
Vaccination
with Quick Shield stimulates the production of interferon, which
causes the animal’s immune system to produce a rapid non-specific
anti-viral response. In virus challenge studies, cattle vaccinated
with Quick Shield showed extremely high levels of protection,
and they shed little or no disease virus.
Because Quick Shield
is given intranasally (in the nose), there
is no risk of injection site lesions. The product goes directly
to the
mucous membranes of the nose and mouth, where viruses thrive,
and has been shown to significantly reduce clinical signs of
IBR and
PI3 infection. Quick Shield also can be given subcutaneously.
